# Does the Scrum Master need to attend the Daily Scrum?

The [Scrum Master](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-master/) does not have to attend the [Daily Scrum](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/daily-scrum/), although it may be helpful. The Developers are responsible for running the meeting, and the [Scrum Master](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-master/)’s attendance is optional. If the [Scrum Master](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-master/) does attend, their role should be to observe and support rather than to direct the meeting.

The presence of the [Scrum Master](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-master/) can be beneficial in identifying any obstacles that the team might face and helping to remove them. However, the primary focus of the [Daily Scrum](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/daily-scrum/) should remain on the Developers and their daily planning activities.
