# How long is a typical Sprint Retrospective, and does the duration vary?

The [Sprint Retrospective](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-retrospective/) is timeboxed to three hours. However, for shorter Sprints, it is common to shorten this [Timebox](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/timebox/) proportionally. This ensures that the time spent on reflection and planning is appropriate for the length of the Sprint, making the retrospective efficient and focused.

The time spent in the [Sprint Retrospective](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-retrospective/) is crucial for thorough inspection and planning. Although the duration might vary, the goal remains the same: to identify and plan improvements that will increase the [Scrum Team](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-team/)'s effectiveness in future Sprints.
