# How often are Sprints cancelled in Scrum?

Sprint cancellations are rare in Scrum due to the disruptive nature of such an action and the [Waste](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/waste/) it introduces into the [Workflow](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/workflow/). The aim is to maintain a steady and predictable development rhythm, which is why cancellation is avoided unless absolutely necessary.

The rarity of Sprint cancellations reflects the emphasis on adaptability within the Scrum framework. Rather than cancelling, teams typically adjust the [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/) to accommodate new realities, striving to deliver [Value](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/value/) even under challenging circumstances.
