# What are Sprints in Scrum?

Sprints are the heartbeat of Scrum, where ideas are turned into [Value](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/value/). They are timeboxed periods of one month or less, during which a Done [Increment](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/increment/) is created that meets the [Definition of Done](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/definition-of-done/) and achieves the [Sprint Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-goal/). These sprints encapsulate all the other Scrum events and the work necessary to create Increments.

A Sprint begins with a [Sprint Planning](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-planning/) event and concludes with the [Sprint Review](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-review/) and [Sprint Retrospective](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-retrospective/) events. Additionally, the [Daily Scrum](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/daily-scrum/) event is held each working day during the Sprint, ensuring continuous progress and alignment among the [Scrum Team](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-team/) members.
