# What are the three artifacts in Scrum and their associated commitments?

Scrum's artifacts are the [Product Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/a-scrum-artifact-that-consists-of-an-ordered-list-of-the-work-to-be-done-in-order-to-create-maintain-and-sustain-a-product-managed-by-the-product-owner/), the [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/), and the [Increment](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/increment/). Each artifact represents work or [Value](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/value/) and provides transparency and opportunities for inspection and adaptation.

The [Product Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/a-scrum-artifact-that-consists-of-an-ordered-list-of-the-work-to-be-done-in-order-to-create-maintain-and-sustain-a-product-managed-by-the-product-owner/) is an ordered list of everything that might be needed in the product, with the commitment being the [Product Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/product-goal/), which provides a long-term objective for the [Scrum Team](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-team/). The [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/) is the set of [Product Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/a-scrum-artifact-that-consists-of-an-ordered-list-of-the-work-to-be-done-in-order-to-create-maintain-and-sustain-a-product-managed-by-the-product-owner/) items selected for the Sprint, along with a plan for delivering them, and its commitment is the [Sprint Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-goal/), which provides focus for the team. The [Increment](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/increment/) is the sum of all the [Product Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/a-scrum-artifact-that-consists-of-an-ordered-list-of-the-work-to-be-done-in-order-to-create-maintain-and-sustain-a-product-managed-by-the-product-owner/) items completed during a Sprint, and its commitment is the [Definition of Done](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/definition-of-done/), ensuring that all Increments meet a shared quality standard.
