# What does the term ‘stakeholders’ refer to in Scrum?

In Scrum, the term 'stakeholders' encompasses all individuals outside the [Scrum Team](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-team/) who have an interest in the product. This includes a broad range of people such as users, customers, management, governance bodies, and anyone else who has a stake in the product's success. The term is intentionally broad to simplify the framework and avoid overcomplicating the identification of different [Stakeholder](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/stakeholder/) types.

By keeping the definition of stakeholders broad, Scrum allows teams to focus on collaboration and [Value](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/value/) delivery without getting bogged down in categorising various [Stakeholder](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/stakeholder/) groups. This simplicity is a key aspect of Scrum's design, making it adaptable and flexible in various organisational contexts.
