# What is a Sprint in Scrum, and how is it structured?

A Sprint in Scrum is a short cycle of work, typically lasting less than one month, in which a specific amount of work is completed by the [Scrum Team](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-team/). These cycles are designed to allow for regular assessment and adaptation of the work being done. Each Sprint begins with a [Sprint Planning](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-planning/) event where the team sets a [Sprint Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-goal/) and decides on the tasks to be accomplished during the Sprint. The work is then tracked in the [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/), a dynamic document that evolves as tasks are completed and new insights are gained.

The structure of a Sprint includes daily meetings called Daily Scrums where the Developers discuss progress and adjust their plans for the next 24 hours. At the end of the Sprint, a [Sprint Review](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-review/) is conducted where the [Increment](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/increment/) (the potentially shippable product) is inspected by both the [Scrum Team](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/scrum-team/) and stakeholders. This is followed by a [Sprint Retrospective](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-retrospective/), where the team reflects on the past Sprint and identifies ways to improve in the next Sprint.
