# What is the Sprint Backlog and what does it contain?

The [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/) is a detailed plan for the Sprint, including the [Sprint Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-goal/), selected [Product Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/a-scrum-artifact-that-consists-of-an-ordered-list-of-the-work-to-be-done-in-order-to-create-maintain-and-sustain-a-product-managed-by-the-product-owner/) items, and the plan for delivering them. It serves as a roadmap for the work to be done during the Sprint.

Not all tasks in the [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/) need to contribute directly to the [Sprint Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-goal/). The [Sprint Backlog](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-backlog/) does not have to be perfect or complete by the end of [Sprint Planning](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-planning/); the minimum requirement is a [Sprint Goal](https://www.thescrummaster.co.uk/glossary/sprint-goal/) and enough planned work to start the Sprint.
