Vision, Mission & Goals
Organisations exist to achieve something. They have a purpose. They often express this purpose in different ways to motivate and align people. 3 elements are often used to express this purpose:
- A Vision Statement: an expression of the change that the organisation wants to make in the world.
- A Mission Statement: an expression of why the organisation is uniquely capable of achieving the Vision Statement.
- Goals: that help the organisation achieve its Mission and Vision.
Organisations form goals to make concrete progress toward achieving their Mission and Vision. Without goals, the Mission and Vision are simply lofty aspirations. Furthermore, without effective Mission and Vision statements, goals may lack a compelling purpose, especially for those working under conditions of uncertainty.
