Ultimate Scrum Master (USM) is an interactive, activity-based course that helps participants develop a strong understanding of Scrum and the accountability of the Scrum Master.
Through a combination of discussion, practical exercises and team-based activities, participants explore the principles that underpin Scrum, the Agile mindset and the behaviours demonstrated by effective Scrum Masters.
The course includes an attempt at TheScrumMaster.co.uk’s Ultimate Scrum I (US I) assessment. Participants who successfully pass the assessment earn the Ultimate Scrum I certification.
Course Overview
During this two-day course*, participants are challenged to explore Scrum theory, principles and practices so they can make better decisions when applying Scrum within their teams and organisations.
The course combines trainer-led learning with practical, activity-based exercises. Participants work together to explore realistic situations, challenge common assumptions and apply Scrum to complex product development. Our experienced trainers bring practical Scrum Master experience, examples and stories into the classroom. Rather than simply presenting rules or processes, they help participants understand why each element of Scrum exists and how the parts of the Scrum framework work together.
Participants leave the course with a deeper appreciation of Scrum, empiricism and the Agile mindset. They learn how Scrum Masters help teams improve their effectiveness, address impediments and create an environment in which people can self-manage and deliver valuable outcomes.
The course also helps participants identify common Scrum myths, ineffective practices and organisational barriers that can prevent teams from benefiting fully from Scrum. Participants gain the knowledge and judgement needed to select and apply practices that support their Scrum Teams without turning Scrum into a rigid or prescriptive process.
* When delivered in person, this course is generally run over two consecutive days. Live Virtual courses may be delivered across a greater number of shorter sessions.
