Scrum is often described as being simple to learn but difficult to master. I have always wondered just how simple it really is to learn. I often spend 2 days teaching a new team about Scrum. Could it be possible to do it faster than this? I think I am about to find out.
I recently spent the day with a wonderful new client. In the just 8 hours I helped them to go from Zero to Scrum.
Here is what they accomplished:
- Scrum introductory training for 10 people
- Established Scrum Team structure (Product Owner, Scrum Master, Development Team members named)
- Established date for start of Sprint 1
- Defined an approach to handle absences from key events
- Defined time and location for Daily Scrum
- Defined time and location for 1st Sprint Planning event
- Sprint Goal for Sprint 1 planned
- Defined strategy for carrying out Product Backlog refinement
- Product Backlog created and ordered
- Product Backlog loaded to Trello
- Product Backlog sizing techniques explored and highest order Product Backlog Items sized
- Definition of Done created
Pretty good for a day I think! They are now embarking on their first Sprint.
