The Scrum framework insists on a Retrospective every Sprint. It does not prevent us from taking time out at other times as appropriate to look back in order to inspect, adapt and move forward in a new direction. The end of the year is a natural time to reflect on the events of the past 12 months and take stock. Here is what I discovered from my own end of year Retrospective.
This has been a year of big changes for me. At the start of the year I decided to focus my efforts full time on Scrum training. As a result I have travelled all over the world and trained 100’s of people in 15+ countries ranging from China to Qatar. This has allowed me to meet many incredible people and I have learned a huge amount from them. In every course I have conducted I learnt something new and valuable. If you are reading this – Thank you!
My training company (TheScrumMaster.co.uk) is now well established and going from strength to strength. I have loved building a product from the ground up that meets my vision of what a training provider should be. My objective for TheScrumMaster.co.uk is to offer the best Scrum training available, put the people I train at the centre of everything I do and help them to learn about and use Scrum to create market leading products.
This was despite some personal challenges to overcome, not least a ruptured Achilles Tendon that left me unable to walk for a few months early in the year. I didn’t let this stop me and still managed to conduct courses in Barcelona and London as well as build this website while incapacitated.
The year has been capped off with a public Scaled Professional Scrum course held last week in London. This was a great experience for me and brought together a years worth of learning and development. I am really excited about Scaled Professional Scrum and the Nexus framework and look forward to working with this much more in 2016. I have some big plans, so watch this space.
In the inevitable quiet time over the Christmas and New Year period I will adapt my plan for 2016. Life is a journey. As with software development, it is hard to accurately predict what will happen This is part of what makes it exciting. Our inability to accurately predict doesn’t mean we shouldn’t still plan. My plan for 2015 was adapted as I moved through the year, but the time spent planning was invaluable.
I look forward to the new challenges 2016 will bring, the people I will meet and the things I will learn. I only hope it will be as good as 2015 has been!

Simon it was great to get connected with you this year. You were very supportive & ready to help whenever required. I remember the day when I asked you for Scrum.org certification roadmap & you were quick in writing a blog to help me. Thanks for all help. Also I tried my best to propagate scrum.org certifications in my organization, within my friend circle & also the discounted offers on PSP & SPS that you offered. It was great & got many positive responses. Hope will be able to get certified soon in some scrum.org certifications not me but many of my friends in coming year. After getting connected with you I started focusing more on scrum.org certifications & developed love for Nexus framework. Your blogs on SPS & Nexus are really very helpful. I hope to get same info/support in coming year from you. Happy Holidays. Thanks, Pradip.
Hi Pradip,
