Scaling Scrum is a hot topic for many organisations at the moment. Motivated by the successes that they have enjoyed using Scrum with relatively small numbers of teams, there is now a wide spread desire to scale these successes effectively to larger projects.
In response to this demand, Scrum.org have launched Scaled Professional Scrum and the Nexus framework. This is Ken Schwaber and the team at Scrum.org’s answer to the challenges of scaling software product development using Scrum.
Nexus is the framework for scaling Scrum. It is an exoskeleton that rests on top of multiple Scrum Teams who work together to create an Integrated Increment. It builds on the Scrum framework and values.
The good news about Scaled Professional Scrum is that it is still Scrum as you already know it. You still do all the good things you did with Scrum up to now. It extends Scrum with a selection of familiar new events, artefacts and a range of 40 good practices to assist you in your scaling efforts and give you a greater chance of success.
Nexus is designed to deal with the biggest issues that trouble large scale software development projects, most commonly dependancies and integration. The successful use of Nexus can lead to an effective development group of up to 100 people. For larger initiatives, there is Nexus+, a unification of more than one Nexus.
You can learn more through the Nexus Guide, the Nexus Open assessment and our Scaled Professional Scrum courses, where Nexus is the cornerstone.
I will be posting more about the details of Scaled Professional Scrum and Nexus shortly, so stay tuned to learn more. You can sign up to our newsletter to receive a notification when we publish more.
