Producing valid estimates requires experience, collaboration, iterative Refinement, and feedback loops. When Scrum Teams work together over time, they develop a shared understanding of their capability, the complexities of their work, and the nuances of their environment. Through this shared understanding, team members can more accurately assess the time and effort required for tasks, leading to better estimates.
Estimation becomes easier and less inaccurate over time as teams build on their collective experience. Despite our best efforts, estimates will never be 100% reliable in complex environments. However, the best (or least wrong) estimates emerge when they are created by groups, involving discussions among the actual Developers who will do the work, and are made relative to other similar tasks. This collaborative approach leverages the diverse perspectives and expertise within the team, fostering more accurate and reliable estimates.
