The Product Owner is one of the three key roles within a Scrum Team, with the primary responsibility of maximising the Value of the product. This is achieved through ensuring that the Scrum Team is working on the right tasks in the correct order. The way this responsibility is fulfilled can vary significantly based on different practices and organisational structures.
The Product Owner is accountable for managing the Product Backlog, which includes developing and communicating the Product Goal, creating and ordering Product Backlog items, and ensuring that the backlog is transparent and understood by both the Scrum Team and stakeholders. They may either handle these tasks personally or delegate them, but they remain ultimately accountable for the backlog’s content and prioritisation.
