What is the Definition of Done in Scrum?

The Definition of Done (DoD) in Scrum is a commitment by the Developers to ensure that each Increment is complete and meets the predefined criteria. Every Sprint aims to create an Increment that aligns with the Definition of Done and achieves the Sprint Goal, ensuring that the work is fully finished and ready for Release.

Ken Schwaber, the co-creator of Scrum, emphasises that producing Done Increments is the most critical element of Scrum. It supports the empirical approach, which is fundamental to Scrum, by enhancing transparency and enabling effective inspection and adaptation. Work can only be considered part of an Increment if it meets the Definition of Done.
