What is the first step toward achieving a Strategic Goal according to EBM?

The first step toward achieving a Strategic Goal is understanding your Current State. Evidence-Based Management (EBM) provides a framework that includes a set of perspectives on Value and the organisation’s ability to deliver that Value. These perspectives are known as Key Value Areas (KVAs), which help organisations assess and understand their current position in relation to their goals.

The four Key Value Areas are Current Value (CV), Unrealized Value (UV), Time-to-Market (T2M), and Ability to Innovate (A2I). Each KVA offers a unique perspective on different aspects of Value and performance. By examining these areas, organisations can gain a comprehensive understanding of their current state, which is essential for setting realistic and strategic goals. This understanding allows them to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement, paving the way for effective goal setting and achievement.
