What are the four Key Value Areas (KVAs) in EBM, and what do they represent?

The four Key Value Areas (KVAs) in Evidence-Based Management (EBM) are Current Value (CV), Unrealized Value (UV), Time-to-Market (T2M), and Ability to Innovate (A2I). Each KVA represents a different aspect of an organisation’s performance and Value delivery.

Current Value (CV) refers to the Value that the product delivers today. It measures the existing benefits and satisfaction that customers derive from the product. Unrealized Value (UV) represents potential future Value that could be realised by meeting the needs of all potential customers or users. It highlights the gap between the current experience and the desired outcome. Time-to-Market (T2M) focuses on responsiveness, measuring how quickly an organisation can improve its Current Value by delivering new capabilities, services, or products. Lastly, Ability to Innovate (A2I) assesses the organisation’s effectiveness in delivering new capabilities that might better meet customer needs. It reflects the organisation’s capacity for sustained innovation and adaptation.
