Measuring too much within an organisation can lead to significant Waste. This Waste arises when organisations collect vast amounts of data but do little or nothing with the information gathered. Such practices consume resources without yielding corresponding benefits, and thus, this form of inefficiency should be eliminated. It is vital to focus on measuring only what truly helps in understanding progress within the four KVAs of EBM.
Overloading on information can overwhelm individuals and hinder their ability to make sense of the data. Therefore, it is generally more effective to measure less but ensure the Metrics used are meaningful and actionable. Organisations should be prepared to adapt or discard measures that do not provide useful insights. This process of refining measurements is normal and involves practice and experimentation to determine the most effective Metrics for the specific context.
