What does the name ‘Sprint’ imply, and why might it be misleading?

The name ‘Sprint’ implies rushing or racing to get work done, but this is not the intention. Instead, a Sprint is simply a period during which an Increment is created. There is no requirement to move faster than usual, and the pace should be sustainable for the Scrum Team.

The term ‘Sprint’ probably sounded appealing in the early days of Scrum due to its connotation of speed, which might have attracted decision-makers and early adopters. Over time, however, the term has gained a new meaning for those familiar with Scrum, and changing it now would be impractical.
